Hot Gallery Openings, Weekend of July 13th

July 16, 2012

The Dayton Visual Arts Center kicked off it’s 21st Annual Open Members’ Show No Borders on Friday, July 13th.  Including artwork by over 170 artists, Charlotte Gordon, Curator at the Springfield Museum of Art, and guest juror, presented 11 artists with awards.  Gordon wrote “No Borders is an appropriate theme, as the daily news is filled with border disputes…the interpretations of this theme are vast and varied.”

Rosewood Gallery presented two solo exhibitions: Dara Alter, of Princeton, New Jersey, and Alyson Annette Eshelman of Springfield, Ohio.  Alter created a world of maps and architectural signifiers teetering between representation and abstraction; Eshelman looks to her family and her heritage in Appalachia through paper fibers and textiles.
