East Third Street Facelift, courtesy of Mural Project

October 14, 2012

Under an overpass and along East Third Street, artists are altering the colors and textures of a once forgettable streetscape.  Funded by a mini grant from the City of Dayton and private donations raised in an online campaign, dozens of artists have designed and are in the process of realizing unique murals.  Inspired by the close proximity of these walls to the popular 2nd Street Market, the theme of produce is the overarching criteria.

Lisa Helm, manager of Garden Staton, Jerri Stanard, Executive Director of K-12 Gallery, and Carli Dixon, owner of AttaGirl, organized this project in an effort to use art and beautification to change the perception of this roadway, as well as support local artists and the creative economy of Dayton.

The deadline for artists to complete their murals is Friday, November 2nd, with a celebration of the finished project that First Friday.  Drive by and show your support over the next two weeks!  Lisa Helm is keeping a photo album of the project’s progress on the Garden Station facebook page; click here to check it out!
