Susan Byrnes: Dress for Birds
For the last days of August, Cincinnati-based artist Susan Byrnes has created a special installation at the Dayton Visual Arts Center titled Dress for Birds. From the DVAC website, “An installation built around a 70” tall gown made from a cast iron bodice and a full-length skirt composed of natural materials which will extend and meander throughout the gallery space. Dress for Birds incorporates images from St. Francis of Assisi, patron Saint of animals and the environment; Mother Nature; and the “Goddess” icon.”
Artist Susan Byrnes is an artist and independent curator with a BFA from Syracuse University, and an MFA in sculpture from Eastern Michigan University. Her current work includes drawing, sound, sculpture, installation, and performance, as well as arts-based broadcasts for radio that have aired on WALF at Alfred University, WUDR at the University of Dayton, and WYSO at Antioch University.
Dress for Birds is on view August 20 – 30 during DVAC’s regular business hours.
