Unwoven Light at the Stein Galleries
Soo Sunny Park’s installation Unwoven Light, commissioned by Rice University, traveled to Wright State University’s Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries from September 15 – October 13. Exploring the boundaries between drawing and sculpture, Park’s chainlink fence and plexiglass transforms the gallery.
From the artist’s statement: “This piece explores light’s potential as a structural element in sculpture….Here these boundaries don’t divide us, or the space we occupy; fences and glass divide the light. We pass among them as they force the light to show itself: to inhabit and structure our space.”
Parks asked the question of her work, “what does it take to make something an art piece instead of just a beautiful object?” Using space, form, color and common materials, the world is forever transformed through her eyes. Learn more about Soo Sunny Park’s art at http://soosunnypark.com/
