Unwoven Light at the Stein Galleries

October 14, 2013

Soo Sunny Park’s installation Unwoven Light, commissioned by Rice University, traveled to Wright State University’s Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries from September 15 – October 13.  Exploring the boundaries between drawing and sculpture, Park’s chainlink fence and plexiglass transforms the gallery.

From the artist’s statement: “This piece explores light’s potential as a structural element in sculpture….Here these boundaries don’t divide us, or the space we occupy; fences and glass divide the light.  We pass among them as they force the light to show itself: to inhabit and structure our space.”

park_2Parks asked the question of her work, “what does it take to make something an art piece instead of just a beautiful object?” Using space, form, color and common materials, the world is forever transformed through her eyes.  Learn more about Soo Sunny Park’s art at http://soosunnypark.com/
