Holdfast at Dayton Visual Arts Center
Four artists–Travis Head, David Dunlap, Zach Stensen and Josh Black–make up the artist collective Four-Footed Fellows Correspondence Club. Geographically disconnected (LA, Iowa City, Blacksburg, VA, and Doha, Qatar), their collaborative work grew out of a 2007 letter writing project and into short-term gatherings taking place over the span of many years, including two weeks in September to create the exhibition Holdfast at the Dayton Visual Arts Center.
“Drawing, artifacts and installation imbued with themes of wayfaring, history and friendship created en route from Blacksburg, Virginia to Dayton by the Flylot Fellows Correspondence Club” states the DVAC website.
Referencing personal stories, US history and the passing of time, the exhibition features drawings, constructed spaces, and sculptural installations, seamlessly encompassing the individual artists’ content into an accessible larger narrative.
Holdfast is on view through October 17, 2015. More information is at http://www.daytonvisualarts.org.
